“«~A promise of the future~» fut enregistré par Hugh Masekela en 1968. Alors exilé aux Etats-Unis, il fut soutenu et encouragé par de nombreux artistes qui l'incitèrent à valoriser le jazz des townships. Il opèra de nombreuses fusions entre le mbombela (autre nom du township jazz) et les musiques noires américaines. Harry Belafonte, son plus fidèle allié, l’aida même à produire son premier album américain, «~The emancipation of Hugh Masekela~». A promise of the future has been recorded in 1968 at the United States. Hugh Masekela was in exile, like many south african jazzmen. Some American musicians encouraged him then to play township jazz rather than american jazz. During this decade, Hugh Masekela experimented a fusion of both styles. Harry Belafonte supported him actively and helped him to produce his first "american" LP, The emancipation of Hugh Masekela. ”
