Ancestry In Progress

Dans son opus Ancestry In Progress (2004), produit par le compositeur, musicien, ingénieur du son et producteur Anthony Tidd (ex-Five Elements de Steve Coleman) et Marie Daulne, Zap Mama laisse entendre divers styles musicaux : afro-soul/afro-funk (« Sweet Melody »), afro-funk (« Bandy Bandy ») en featuring avec Erykah Badu aka Erica Abi Wright, chanteuse soul/R&B/ jazz/hip hop américaine, afro-zouk (« Show Me the Way ») ou encore afro-folk/ballade (« Yaku »).

Zap Mama s’incruste aussi dans le hip hop avec « Yelling Away », en featuring avec les rappeurs américains Ahmir ‘?uestlove’ Thompson aka Ahmir Khalib Thompson, Common ou Common Sense aka Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. et Talib Kweli aka Talib Kweli Greene.

Le projet comprend le titre « Sweet Melody », interprété par Desta Haile aux côtés de Chantal Willie.

Zap Mama

Fondé en 1991 à Bruxelles, en Belgique, par la chanteuse Marie Daulne, Zap Mama est un groupe féminin belgo-congolais oscillant entre chants polyphoniques, afro-folk, a capella, afro-pop, afro- hip hop et afro-fusion, avec des onomatopées typiquement africaines.
