« Echoes from Africa » a été enregistré initialement le 1er septembre 1979 à à Tonstudio Bauer, à Ludwigsburg, en Allemagne, par deux grands jazzmen d’Afrique du Sud : Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), le pianiste de génie, et Johnny Dyani, le bassiste du mythique groupe sud-africain The Blue Notes.
