Dans Home Cooking, le batteur Nigérian Tony Allen approfondit sa recherche sur son afro-funk, mêlant rock, électro, dub, afro-hip hop à un afro-beat novateur et à la rythmique puissante.

Enregistré au studio Soho à Londres, Home Cooking, est réalisé, entre autres, avec le chanteur de Blur-Gorillaz Damon Albarn (“Every Season”), Kehinde Allen aux chœurs, Show Boy aux sax ténor et baryton, Cesar Anot à la basse, Jeff Kellner à la guitare, Afola Bi Mufutau aux percussions, Anthonia Pagulatos au violon, le rappeur Ben Chijioke aka Ty (“Every Season”, “Woman To Man”) ou encore la chanteuse Eska Mtungwazi aka Eska (“What’S Your Fashion”).

Dans cet album, Tony Allen parle de rue et de colère : celles des Nigérians englués dans le “bourbier tropical” qui décidèrent un jour de répondre aux dérives d’un highlife joué pour la bourgeoisie des beaux quartiers et celle des afro-américains piégés dans le Bronx (USA).

In Home Cooking, Nigerian drummer [Tony Allen asserts once more his musical concept, afrofunk, fusing dub and afro-hop with afrobeat. He gathers there two ghetto styles and his lyrics are about the people’s anger, the Lagos inhabitants’ one, prisonners of the “tropical mess” and the African Americans’ suffering in the Bronx.
