Spirit of Love

En 1990, Majek Fashek signe avec Interscope Records, un label américain fondé à Santa Monica, en Californie, par Jimmy Iovine et Ted Field. En 1991, son deuxième album, Spirit Of Love (L’esprit d’amour), enregistré avec son groupe Prisoners Of Conscience et produit par Steven Van Zandt aka Little Steven, est très bien accueilli par la critique. Des chansons comme « So Long », « Religion Na Politics », « Holy Spirit », « I’m Not Tired » ou « I Come From The Ghetto » deviennent tous des tubes.

Auteur, compositeur, chanteur et multi-instrumentiste (guitare solo, guitare rythmique, basse, keyboards, percussions, piano, orgue), Majek Fashek propose un afro-reggae très original, aux parfums nigérians (juju, fuji, afro-beat, highlife), blues ou au rock. Ses textes, souvent chantés en anglais ou en pidgin, dénoncent l’injustice, les conflits, la violence, le crime, prônent la paix et l’unité, rendent hommage aux héros africains ou relatent ses luttes politiques et sociales.
